What to do?

You all know the story about Dr Worthless that we encountered at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite ER.

Because he sent us home, instead of keeping Annabelle for monitoring, we ended up with a second trip to the ER before our week long stay at the hospital. You want to know the bill for that first trip? $1352.75 Crazy! After insurance processed it we only owed $50. That's fine. We can part with the $50, but part of me wants to fight the bill all together.

After our trip to the ER, Annabelle's pediatrician was FURIOUS that Dr Worthless sent us home. She reported his neglect to everyone she could think of including his supervisor. At Annabelle's one month check up, Dr B was still upset. She said something along the lines of "I knew she was going to crash that night. After all my years of practice...it's not like I'm some new kid on the block." Yep, she was FUUUURIOUS with Dr Worthless. It was at that point that I realized at a whole new level how serious Annabelle's illness had been. Apparently tons of infants go to sleep with RSV and never wake up because they stop breathing in their sleep and the parents have no clue that this is even a possibility. (I wonder if those deaths are classified as SIDS or if they are attributed to the illness.) Any way, that is why Dr B tried desperately to get us a sleep apnea machine for Annabelle - attempt failed. I'm just so grateful that God had his loving hand on our family that night.

Grounds for fighting the bill: Obviously, after a week long stay following the second ER visit, Dr Worthless clearly overlooked something during his observation of Annabelle. At the second ER visit less than 10 hours later, Annabelle was rushed through many tests and perhaps extra procedures that may not have happened if she had been monitored through the night like Dr B requested.

Another reason I want to fight the bill is to bring some attention to the case. I don't want to think about any other child that Dr Worthless may have sent home or in the future may send home to "sink or swim". When we were in the hospital room with him, he completely down played the severity of the virus. "It's just a respiratory cold that only time will heal. She will be fine. Don't do any breathing treatments unless necessary. Just keep her hydrated and suction out her nose." Now, all of those statements may hold some truth, but for a 15 day old that breaths 90% of her oxygen through her nose - everything he said was completely understated. Also, the blockage in her nose was in her upper sinuses. It was obvious that a simple bulb syringe was not enough to clear her nasal passages unless you could do a nasal wash and that is a technique that obviously takes time to master.

So, the $50 is not too hard to swallow, but I'm just not sure I can handle the "What ifs"...

Every time we leave Pop and Gran's house I feel like I never give enough - enough of my time, resources, money (not that we have a whole bunch to spare), talents, etc. Pop and Gran, on the other hand, give all they have and more. And it is just second nature to them. It is so inspiring to visit with them! It is also funny to hear Gran tell all of us how we don't need to eat this or that because our waste lines are expanding - ouch! Haha =) Gotta love a woman in her 80's! Can't wait until I'm 80 and I can say whatever I want!!

Since we just got Hilda's old Singer 600 up and running, this would be perfect timing - and because Annabelle isn't mobile yet =) Things sure are going to be different when I have two girls to chase!

If you take a look at Rachel's giveaway page, I LOVE the white quilt with hints of color in the corners. When I read Ashley Ann's blog today and saw the picture for Rachel's giveaway, that quilt was the first thing to catch my eye. And then I found out Rachel sent it to Ashley as a present. How cool would it be to find a surprise like that in the mail!

Just think, if I get to take the class you all might start to receive awesome gifts like that from me =) Okay, I can dream right?

So here are a few pictures of the fabric roses I made yesterday.

As you can see, I made a few different types. My favorite is the last flower and you can find the tutorial for it here. I used hot glue instead of fabric glue. It was by far the easiest flower I made and I love the way it turned out!

My next plan it to make the flowers and the yo yos into some cute headbands to share with my sweet girls!! I also hope to make some for my friends - I just have to make it to the store for elastic and different fabric. Maybe this weekend?

Yo Yos

I have been itching to make some of these fabric yo yos since I bought this headband from etsy.com. So yesterday, on our way down to Blakely, I made some of my first yo yos in the car using a large chick fil a lid and the top of a wet ones container as my circle patterns. What do you think?

I'm so impressed that Bo actually thought to take the pictures above =) He does listen!

I hope to try my hand at making fabric roses today. I have found two different tutorials with very different looks. Maybe I will have some pictures tomorrow!

Girls Craft Weekend Anyone

Maybe in a few months, I could host a craft weekend like this. Do I have any takers? What about if we could find an on site sitter for breastfeeding mommas?

So what do you think of this comforter? In blue or rose. I know, you can't see the full comforter, only a sham, but I think I love it. The walls in this house are just so plain that I think the color in this comforter would look great in our master bedroom (that I don't want to paint) with these curtains. That is assuming the blues match!

I just don't think I want to paint another room in this house that we will have to repaint when we leave. So my solution - add color using bedding and window treatments. What do you think?

One month check up and a picture summary of our week!

Annabelle's one month appointment went very well today! She has gained 2 pounds - my little chunk =)

Her lungs are all clear, God is GREAT!! Dr. B said the only thing is that we will have to treat her a little more cautiously when she gets a cold. She will be more prone to get bronchitis and pneumonia than most babies. Dr. B then snuggled Annabelle for a minute and gave Emma Catherine a huge hug before she left the room. Dr. B is a great person. She is always very positive and attentive. Emma Catherine LOVES her. Today we were getting ready to go to Annabelle's appointment when Emma Catherine looked at me with her wide eyes and nodded as she said with great confidence "I'm going to show Dr. B my new hair bow." This was coming from the toddler who hates to brush her hair lately and cannot keep a hair bow in for more than 5 minutes. This time she did. Even though I took us to the wrong location for the appointment and sat in the waiting room for 20 minutes before the receptionist stuck her head out to tell me our appointment was at the other location. By that point it was time for our appointment. We rushed out to the car - leaving the Dora tv show that was playing in the waiting room. Mind you that getting into the car is no small task.

Steps to getting into the car:

find keys

unlock car

open EC's door

place diaper bag in EC's floor board

lift EC to her seat

buckle the bottom part while she clips the breastbar - hello do it myself phase

find her snack... and water

close door

go to other side of car

open Annabelle's door

pull Annabelle out of BabyK'tan

maneuver huge car seat straps around Annabelle's tiny limbs to get her buckled in

find pacifier to sooth screaming newborn

cover legs with blanket

close door

go back to the other side of the car

open my door

collapse in seat, leaving on BabyK'tan

buckle self

start car

rush to other office...

We made it to the other office within ten minutes only to find ourselves waiting for an hour and a half, but who's counting? And why again did we have to leave Dora? Yeah, I was that desperate. EC went through her snack and books I brought for her in about 5 seconds flat. But you know what? She left that stinkin hairbow in her hair the ENTIRE time.

Field trip Friday attire would not be complete without this awesome pink skirt that mom would not let EC wear to bed and of course the pink boots that light up when you walk. Both equally entice cousin Eric who is woefully deprived of all things pink =)
